About Sheryl
A relationship built on acceptance, empathy, and understanding.
Counselling is a relationship between two people. It takes place when you meet with a therapist in a confidential setting to explore a difficulty, freely and without judgement, something that's rarely possible with family or friends. By listening attentively and patiently, I can often see a problem from a different perspective, helping bring clarity to what may currently feel confusing.
I work psychodynamically, which means bringing into conscious awareness thoughts and feelings that have previously stayed unconscious. It allows you to develop insight into deep-rooted patterns stemming from childhood, and with that insight, change can begin.
I hold an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I'm an accredited member of both the BACP and UKCP, bound by their codes of ethics and practice. I attend regular supervision and remain committed to ongoing training.
Areas of practice
I see clients with a wide range of difficulties, including:
A particular interest
I have particular experience supporting those in caring or client-facing roles, including healthcare, social work, and education, as well as those facing end-of-life issues, and carers. I've also worked for many years, and with significant experience, supporting trauma survivors and their families.
Your initial consultation
If you'd like to talk things through first, a free 15-minute phone call is available. There's no obligation to book this before your initial session, but it's there if it would help. The initial session itself gives you the opportunity to explore what you want from therapy, ask any questions about the process, and take the time to consider whether you'd like to go ahead, with no pressure either way.
Sessions & fees
Sessions run weekly, Monday to Friday, and last 50 minutes. I work with clients long-term, typically a minimum of six sessions.
My fee is £75 per session. A limited number of concessionary places are available for those on low incomes, students, or trainee counsellors.
